We had a rough night last night. Courtney is fighting a bad head cold and was having trouble sleeping, therefore, Mom didn’t sleep. I decided early this morning to keep her home from school since it was so rainy and damp. Then the call came.
Courtney’s classmate, Katie, passed away during the night. She was a very fragile 22 year old severely disabled young lady who had been in Court’s class the whole time we have been at the center. Her dad John, was Courtney’s bus driver when we first started at Kilmer. I have had the privilege of caring for Katie this past year as a long term sub in Court’s classroom. She was one of a kind. She loved to blow you kisses and had the most beautiful Rapunzel like hair.
I am devastated for John and Pattie (Kate’s Mom and Dad) and the emptiness they must feel this morning. For Katie’s sister and her pain. But as John said, “now Katie can see”. When I told Courtney this morning, she smiled, knowing that Katie is finally free. She reached up to me and put her hand on my face and felt my tears as if to say, “It’s OK Momma. She is with Jesus.” I can just see her blowing kisses to all the Saints in heaven, especially Amanda and Betsy.
Oh Katie, what an absolute miracle of God you were and always will be. How awesome it is that the first thing you get to “see” is the face of your Savior and Creator. Oh Katie, I know that you are dancing with the angels this day and running free in the fields of heaven. Please watch over us all, especially Miss Betsy, Hye, Maria and all those who cared for you so lovingly during your time with us. They will miss you in their arms. Watch out for all you buddies, especially Courtney. One day you will all be together again.
Eternal rest grant unto Katie, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.
Please keep her family in your prayers. And please remember this family as well. God’s team seems to be growing by leaps and bounds these days. So many new saints.
